He left the Conservatoire in Pardubice in 1985 as a graduate of professor Ivan Štraus. Then he studied at the Academy of Music Arts (AMU) in Prague in the class of professor Jiří Novák and visited chamber music classes of professor Antonín Kohout (both members of Smetana Quartet). During his studies at AMU he became the first violinist of the Wihan Quartet whose member he is still at present.

Kateřina Váchová-Soukalová was born on 13th March 1975 in Havlíčkův Brod, Czech. She started to learn the clarinet at the music school in the class of Josef Brožek. She went on studying the clarinet in 1989-1995 at the Prague Conservatoire in the class of professor Jiří Stárek and then at the Academy of Music Arts in Prague in the class of professor Jiří Hlaváč.

jiri-zigmundJiří Žigmund

Jiří Žigmund was born in 1966 in Prague. He graduated in 1986 from the Ostrava Conservatory, where he was taught by Professor Irena Vitkova (violine). In 1988 he started to play the viola with the Wihan Quartet. Then he continued his studies at the High Music school in Munich with Prof.Heinz Endress. The Quartet takes part in Master classes by J. Metzger, U. Wiesel, H. Beyerle (Alban Berg Quartet) and A. Kohout (Smetana Quartet).
